Oopsies and jumping...

Hello everyone! I haven't posted for about two weeks, so I'll tell you about my last two riding lessons. Two weeks ago, i had a lesson where i jumped the highest I've ever gotten to. The jump was about 2 foot 9! The pony that I've been riding in lessons is really a lot of fun. Her name's Fancy, and she's a 14.2hh
TB mare. She's super athletic, but also very sensitive. If i sit too
heavy on her back she kicks up a stink. Anyways, we jumped two jumps in
a line, the first about 2 ft, the second 2'9. She really likes to jump,
and she just springs off the ground. It's really too bad she isn't
bigger, otherwise we'd probably buy her. We're still looking for a
horse, but we're not going to look at any more until afterChristmas . I
was really hoping we'd have found one by now, however none of the ones
we've looked at have worked out. Anyways, yesterday i had a lesson in
the morning. It was absolutely freezing! i couldn't feel my toes for
about an hour and a half! It was worth it, though. We didn't jump that
lesson, it was too cold. I had to work very hard to keep Fancy moving
evenly, she was quite fresh. She did break out in canter a few times
when we were supposed to be trotting, but it was nothing i couldn't
handle. We did however have one incident. We were just walking on a
loose rein up at the top half of the arena, me off in la la land, fancy
very alert. All of a sudden something spooked her, and she hopped up
and to the side. Well, i was ejected from the saddle to put it nicely.
As i was falling, she reared up a little bit, and her hoof hit my shin
quite hard. Luckily her hoof didn't land on my shin, however i do have
a big bruise now. Anyways, so i stand up and grab the reins, which i
had let go of because they were tangled around my hands. Looking
around, i saw that one girl was staring at me. I smiled, and headed
back over to the mounting block. My trainer looked up from where she
was helping another girl with her girth, looking quite surprised.
"Robyn, what are you doing?" She asked. I looked at her, puzzled. "I
fell off." I told her. Apparently, no one knew i had fallen off other
than the girl who was watching me. They hadn't heard me fall or
anything! At first i thought this was quite odd, but the more i thought
about it, the more it made sense. I hadn't made a single sound as i
fell, and the only noise i made when i was on the ground was whispers
as i tried to calm fancy down. It was still a bit odd, though. I got
back on and finished the lesson without any other incidents.

Hi there! I found your blog when I was coasting the comments of fuglyhorseoftheday, and I must say I quite enjoy reading about what you're doing.

It sounds like Fancy's a lot of fun! I hate those moments when you're paying no attention, but the horse happens to be listening to everything that's going on... and then you're on the ground. :D Sounds like it was a pretty graceful fall, though!

And isn't horse hunting a pain? I've had to buy two horses in as many years, and it's taken me about six months to find one each time. Hopefully you'll have much better luck.

I hope you have a great Christmas, and I look forward to hearing about how you're going.

Brave girl to be even riding in December! It's been minus 25 during the day here in Quesnel, and my nags are bundled in blankets and so am I! Enjoy your Christmas break and Hi to your mom! Moira

That reminds me of when I'd first gotten my gelding he had a bad rearing habit and one time I wasn't holding on tight enough and slid off. I landed on my feet so I don't really think it was a fall, but I couldn't jump clear fast enough and he came down and spun into me. I don't know if it was his hoof or part of his leg that hit me but I ended up with a huge bruise on my shin.

Yeah, bruises to the shin are especially painful... they're worse than most other body bruises :)
